Found in the Solnhofen limestone, Plattenkalk Formation, Malm Zeta 3, Heinheim, Eichstatt. All are as found from splitting shale layers. What you see is a snapshot of the Jurassic Seas of Germany. Solnhofen's most famous resident fossil is the very early Bird, Archaeopteryx. From this find, many other fossil types have been found there and is now a world famous heritage site.
