CARCHAROCLES SOKOLOVI - Western Sahara Megatooth Shark, Eocene age - Commercial and Collector Grades
Carcarcocles sokolovi (Jaekel 1895). Middle to late Eocene (Priabonian stage - 37.2 - 33.9 Million years ago). Gerran Member, Samlat Formation Units B1 and B2, Dakhla Bay, Moroccan Western Sahara Desert. This species was a "Mega-tooth". It is related to the Otodus and the later Miocene Megalodon (C. Many sharks In between are thought to be transition species, some losing their side cusps and serrations, other gaining differently shaped teeth to their earlier evolution, due to genetic and environmental changes.
