Gary Bogwood Jasper (Larsonite) USA 02
Gary Green Jasper (also called McDermitt Green Jasper, Larsonite, is a petrified Swamp or Bogwood, from the Miocene period. A volcanic eruption covered the surrounding area in falling ash, and petrified all wood, canes, cat-tails, basically all living creatures some 11 to 14 Million years ago. The colour of the bogwood is caused by combination of mineral deposits such as; Iron, Potassium, Sodium, Calcium and Aluminium. The volcanic event was enough to deprive the oxygen to plants, and the decay process was stopped. Hence the amazing preservation.
It is found on the Nevada/Oregon Border, USA.
