All the fossil fish have been prepared in the USA and are really displayable pieces. All fish come with a plastic stand as well to help you display them. Most fossils have had some enhancement which is usual practice. This is because the fish are normally the same colour as their matrix and hence are very difficult to see most of the time. Species: Gosiutichthys parvus (Rarer species of Green River fish) Age: Around 52 Million Years (Eocene) Location: Green River Formation, Laney Shale Member near LaBarge, Wyoming. Gosiutichthys are fossil fish of the family Clupeidae genus Gosiutichthys from the Green River Formation. Its name, Gosiutichthys, comes from Gosiute, a Middle Eocene lake where it lived in large schools. It comes from a formation. The fossils and the fish are not like those from other Green River locations and because of this are rarer. They have a different type of preservation. They are small and are relatives to today's herrings. These are all from an Old Collection, and found prior to 1988 when this location was closed for collecting. There is no enhancement or painting on these Rare species of fish. Small but so finely detailed. They are not as common as the commercial fishes in quantity you normally see, these are rare! |
