COPROLITES
|
Coprolites are the scientific term for faeces, poo, dung etc. All Animals produce waste matter, some contains undigested food, others contain fish or meat, and others only vegetable or organic matter. Studying coprolites can give us important clues to what animal produced the poo, and can create a picture of a landscape even if body fossils are not found. Coprolites are trace fossils. This means that they are actually a product of the animals lifestyle, and this can include trackways, teeth marks/gnawings and burrows etc from all different creatures. The creature who made them however has long gone. Just like today when Elephants leave their dung, they just walk away.... You'll find lots of different fossil poos here from all different Prehistoric animals! |
