North African Eocene Bird Fossils Here is a small selection of bird bones from Morocco, and were found in the Eocene deposits of Khourigba. They are tentatively known as the species Pseudodontoris sp. Similar species are well known from the Eocene clays of England and so its fair to say that these birds could get quite big beasts. All the bones are hollow which allows the paleontologist the usual practice of identifying bird bones. Birds needed to have lightweight bodies in order to fly, and hollow bones allowed this. Having said that, some of the terror birds did not fly because they were too large, stalking their prey on the ground with no need ever to fly again. These are fairly rare and I only get a handful every few years but I will keep my prices as low as I possibly can to allow all to own a fossil. |

North American Pleistocene Bird Fossils These are all river finds in North American, and probably belonged to fluffy feathered creatures such as ducks, Cormorants and other wading birds. All the bones are hollow which allows the paleontologist the usual practice of identifying bird bones. Birds needed to have lightweight bodies in order to fly, and hollow bones allowed this. Pleistocene is a period in geological time, not a putty for making models! |
